By the time it dawns on you that a 6-feet contemporary Bollywood actor (in a cameo) has been passed off as the unabridged undercover for Shah Rukh Khan's Don in the film, you are expected to be equipped for many more of such cinematic liberties. And rather than crying a spoiler there, you could rather preset your logic mode to the multiple masquerades in store in the movie.
Don 2, the sequel starts off almost from where the earlier episode ended and while it attempts to maintain some continuity with the last installment, it fails to bring back the intelligence of the original. Don (Shah Rukh Khan) emerges in Malaysia and gets himself arrested only to get the convicted Vardhan (Boman Irani) out of jail. Vardhan has keys to a video footage which they use to blackmail a bank vice president (Alyy Khan) to get access to a German bank's security systems. The big plan is the old-fashioned and formulaic robbery of the currency printing plates from the bank. So the sequel to Don merely boils down to being a heist film.
The film, more or less, starts as an action flick with Don's one-man-army introduction in Thailand, a convenient escape from Malaysian prison and some conventional car-chase sequences in Germany. None of them excite much until you realize you have already reached the interval. The plotting and scheming starts in the second half with an easy induction of a hacker (Kunal Kapoor) who can not only barge into the security systems of the vault but also seems to have blueprints of the bank building to the minutest details.
The writing by Ameet Mehta, Amrish Shah and Farhan Akhtar is more style over substance attempting to camouflage cliches with the cool quotient. Even the central heist seems confusing and convoluted but Farhan Akhtar intentionally keeps the pacing swift enough, leaving no time for the viewer to notice any loose ends. However, the more he makes the situation easy to suit his script, the more it becomes difficult for the audience to digest things.
Even the robbery seems mundane Hollywoodish exercise with no moments of thrills in particular. However the highlight isn't the heist per se but Don's hidden agenda behind it. While it isn't much difficult to decode the mystery, it makes for a decent climax. The director mercifully keeps mush away from the major proceedings though he can't resist the temptation in the climactic portion in his attempts to induce chemistry between Don and his rival, Roma (Priyanka Chopra). But Don would have been better-off as the suave and stonyhearted killer rather than a 'Rahul' prototype. Thankfully the chemistry is peripheral and never blooms into romance.
Also one would have preferred to see Don as more brain over brawny hero but the director makes him a jack of all trades giving him James Bond kinda complete-man characteristics. Vulnerability is alien to Don, essentially making him larger-than-life. But despite being an unethical drug-lord, Farhan Akhtar's treatment is such that you still adore him as the hero over abhorring him as an outright villain. Don 2 never gets into the good v/s evil battle.
The cinematography by Jason West is striking. However Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's musical score doesn't leave a mark this time and the background score has to repeatedly resort to the theme-piece from the original for some impact. Farhan Akhtar's punch-lines in dialogues are initially amusing but with a Don-ism in every second line, it sounds hackneyed and hollow after a point.
Shah Rukh Khan is in his comfort zone as the Don bringing more charm than cruelty to his character. He rules supreme and the film's indulgence with him is as much as Don's obsession with himself. Everyone else is overshadowed. Priyanka Chopra is passable. Lara Dutta, as the Don's moll, is simply a substitute for Isha Koppikhar from the prequel and is hardly there for a few scenes. Boman Irani is underused. Kunal Kapoor fails to register any impact. Om Puri, Alyy Khan and Nawab Shah are plain functional. Sahil Shroff irritates.
Don 2 ends with the promise of Don 3 (that's what the number-plate of Don's bike reads) and the trademark dialogue 'Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahi, namumkim hai' (It's not just difficult to catch don, it's impossible). But we would surely want to 'catch' up with a more worthy sequel to this. It's not impossible Farhan. Is it?

High-profile Don 2 premier starts two hours late, leaving the guests rather disgruntled

If you are going for a Shah Rukh Khan event, you can take your time to put on that extra layer of makeup. No problemo! Shah Rukh is never early. Rather, the actor has acquired quite the reputation of keeping his guests waiting. Reportedly, the actor has now taken his habit of turning up late to the silver screen as well.
Don, jisko pakadna mushkil hi nahi naamumkin hai, lived up to his image and the guests who had accumulated at a suburban theatre to catch the irrepressible on screen goon, had to go through a two-hour long wait to actually catch him on screen last night.
Mumbai Mirror has learnt that the Don ‘special industry screening’ invite, which said that guests have to be present at the venue by 9 pm ended up being rather misleading. An eyewitness revealed that the film was delayed by almost two hours.
This, needless to say, angered the many guests including a lot of film distributors, corporate bigwigs, producers, directors and celebrity photographers. And while some of the guests were seen debating whether to hang on for the film or leave the venue, a few decided to just leave the building. Some, revealed the eyewitness, were even heard blaming the multiplex authorities for the delay.
An eyewitness from the overcrowded lobby where the guests were kept waiting, revealed how a few guests irritated when they heard about SRK happily watching the film at Yash Raj Studios with friends Ritesh Sidhwani and Anubhav Sinha, revealed the eyewitness.
The die-hard SRK fans however, took it rather sportingly. But the remaining guests were none too pleased by Don’s delayed arrival.

| Saif’s 11-cr goodwill gesture
The actor has returned the signing amount paid to him by Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision for a film that has not yet materialised

There have been countless cases of legal battles between actors and production houses over the issue of signing amounts for films that fail to materialise. Saif Ali Khan, however, took an unprecedented step by returning the remuneration - a whopping Rs 11 crore - to Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision for a film that he signed three-and-a-half years ago.
This was confirmed by the friend of the actor who told Mumbai Mirror that Saif did not want to keep the money for a project that has remained unrealised since the production house signed him on.
Saif’s friend explained, “Ashtavinayak were on a signing spree three- four years ago. It was to the extent that they had practically all the top actors signed for films under their banner. Many films were in the pipeline and many were under production as well. Saif and Ashtavinayak have for a long time talked of working together.
They tried to lock many projects, which included a film with Imtiaz Ali and another one with Kunal Kohli. However, none of the films materialised.”
Apparently, Saif’s decision to return the estimated Rs 11 crore, which was paid to him as a signing amount and advance remuneration for the film, has come as a major surprise to the production house.
While officials at Ashtavinayak remained unavailable for comment, a member from Saif Ali Khan’s production house Illuminati Films said, “Yes it is true. Saif did return the money to Ashtavinayak. He is keen to work with them. But, Saif doesn’t want to keep anyone’s money till he actually gives a go ahead to a project.”

| SRK sets off chain reaction
After two back-to-back releases RA.One and Don 2, SRK gets right back to work, after a short four-day-holiday with family in Dubai

He had been working non-stop. First on RA.One. And then, Don 2. And though, many may believe that Shah Rukh Khan truly deserves a break now, SRK is a little hard pressed for time with Yash Chopra's directorial venture going on floors in January instead of March, as planned. However, even the King deserves a break. And so, SRK with Yash Chopra's permission has planned a rather short four-day-holiday with his family in Dubai.
A source close to the project informed Mumbai Mirror, "Earlier the film was supposed to go on floors in September. However, at the time SRK was busy with his films RA.One and Don 2. He had then asked Yashji to postpone the schedule. The film was then supposed to go on floors in March 2012. But now, Yashji has decided to start shooting with a song in the first week of January. And SRK, realising that it was because of him that the shoot was delayed in the first place, has agreed to join in."
This change in schedule has also affected Shah Rukh's earlier holiday plans. "SRK was supposed to go on a longer break. But now, he has cut it short to just four days. He is taking his entire family to Dubai.
The holiday has been specially planned for his son Aryaan, who loves football. SRK wants to spend time playing the sport with his son," added our source.
SRK will come back straight to work after this short break to work on the song planned by Yash Chopra. Katrina, who is currently holidaying in London with her sisters will join the shoot on January 20.
The film also stars Anushka Sharma. Mumbai Mirror has learnt that Aditya Chopra will also be present on the sets of the film, which will be a signature Yash Chopra love story.

| 'Don 2' all set to cross 100 crore

Shahrukh Khan must be breathing easy. His 'Don 2' didn't just open well, it also managed to sustain itself well over the weekend and then the dreaded Monday to ensure that it would now be a clean hit at the least. With around 50 crore coming in it's opening weekend, the film has seen the best start ever for a film released on a non-holiday period. Even otherwise, the film has done quite well and though one does assume that at least 5 crore more could have been gained if not for the 'Ra. One' backlash, the collections in hand are still good enough to ensure a healthy status ahead.
The film wasn't spared of it's share of hiccups though. There was slight negativity that had started setting in the week leading to the film's release and by the time Thursday evening press shows concluded, there was the usual round of adverse commentary from mischief makers that started making the rounds. Thankfully this didn't matter much to those who were indeed waiting to catch the flick as they flocked in dozens by the time Friday came to a close. On the flip side reviews weren't any helpful as quite a few ranged from average to below average though there were some that had good things to say as well.
Audience feedback though was much better than critical response with many finding Farhan Akhtar's slick treatment to the plot quite interesting with added advantage of watching a vintage Shahrukh Khan. While response here ranged from good to very good, there was also a (relatively smaller) segment of audience which were left disappointed with what the film had to offer. It is due to this very reason that the film never went full steam ahead and had to settle down as a success which was good, though not earth shattering.
With the first major milestone of scraping through the weekend pretty much surpassed, the next immediate question is whether 'Don 2' would break the 100 crore barrier or not. Well, the answer is - 'Yes'. The way this film has managed to do well on Monday as well, it is quite clear that the film is finding good audience for itself. With coming weekend coinciding with holiday season and no new release round the corner, expect a reasonably healthy addition to the film's total from Friday to Sunday.
In fact the film should cross the 100 crore mark within two weeks and post that it would be closely observed if it manages to surpass 115 crore total of Shahrukh's biggest grosser till date, 'Ra. One'.

| Don 2 : SRK remains the King at overseas, dons highest first day non festive at home

Certainly, the King is back but only in overseas.SRK much awaited sequel Don 2 has caught the eye of the overseas audience.The slickly made thriller has gained majors in SRK's stronghold - the overseas market where the franchise has surpassed his previous MNIK collections.
Shah Rukh Khan's Don 2 broke the record for the highest single day gross ever for a Hindi film in Australia when it collected US$ 82,000 on Friday. The earlier record was held by the Salman Khan starrer, Bodyguard (US$ 74,000). Don 2 has grossed US $ 1,36,000 in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.
The cumulative gross of Don 2 from the International markets was US$ 3.8 million till Friday. The film opened in 41 countries on the December 23. The rights of the film are to be exploited in a total of 125 countries including a planned phase 2 distribution in 84 countries commencing January 2012.
Don 2 made US$ 5,50,000 gross from 164 locations in North America on Friday (December 23). The film, which opened on Friday, beat My Name Is Khan's opening day gross of $ 4,45,000. This opening day gross is also higher than the sum of the first three day's collections of Ra.One.
In UK, where the film opened on Wednesday (December 21), the total gross collections till Friday were US$ 5,27,000 from 76 locations, with collections from the 3D version accounting for two-thirds of the collections.
In the Middle East, Don 2 grossed US$ 9,30,000 on Thursday & Friday. These collections are higher than the first two day's collections of Ra.One (US$ 7,10,000) and than those of My Name Is Khan (US$ 7,50,000).
On the home front Don 2 has collected Rs. 48.55 crore (all-India net collection) over its first weekend at the box-office. This figure is inclusive of the collections of the original Hindi, dubbed Telugu and dubbed Tamil versions of the film.

Saturday Rs. 15.09 crore.
Sunday : Rs. 18.16 crore
However the movie has not performed to the expectations in the single screens and B & C centers, multiplex has played a huge role in maintaining Shahrukh Khan status at the B.O. the weekend collection of 48 crore for the highly awaited movie like Don 2 starring a star like Shahrukh Khan is no record but still it helps SRK in claiming his stake at the B.O.

Before beginning shoot for Yash Chopra’s next, SRK asked Katrina whether she was comfortable working with him despite the Salman issue

Shah Rukh Khan is a thorough gentleman. And his gentle ways extend to the sets of his films as well. Mumbai Mirror has learnt that before starting to shoot Yash Chopra’s directorial venture with Katrina Kaif, the King Khan asked his leading lady whether she was comfortable working with him considering his differences with her ex-boyfriend Salman Khan. A source from the sets revealed that Katrina had to reassure SRK that she had no hassles working with him before the shoot could begin.
The source told Mumbai Mirror, “In the past Salman has disrupted shoots featuring his former girlfriends. The shoot of Aziz Mirza’s Chalte Chalte had to be stopped when Salman barged in on the sets of the film. Deciding to avoid the risk of facing disruption once again, Shah Rukh replaced Aishwarya Rai with Rani Mukerji in the project back then.”
“Perhaps it was due to past experience that SRK asked Katrina before beginning the shoot with someone as senior as Yash Chopra,” added the source.
“Shah Rukh wanted no problems on the sets. Yashji is over 75-years-old. He is directing a film after a long time. Only when Katrina assured Shah Rukh that there was no question of any intrusion did he agree to start the shoot,” informed the source. And now, the first schedule for the Shah Rukh-Katrina film begins next week.
“Katrina’s equation with Salman is very clear. They’re very good friends. But if he does the ex-boyfriend act with her, he will lose her goodwill for good. For Shah Rukh who has been through some nightmarish experiences with Salman, the tranquil equation that Katrina shares with Salman was not easy to understand. Having understood the equation Shah Rukh now feels he can shoot the film in a relaxed atmosphere,” concluded the source.

Ajay Devgn declares war, moves the release date of Son Of Sardar ahead to clash with SRK’s film at the box office this Diwali

One has always struck gold at the box office on Diwali. The other went a little off balance last year. But both Ajay Devgn and Shah Rukh Khan have yet again decided to hit the theatres during the festival of lights. While it is known, that SRK’s film with Yash Chopra and Devgn’s home production Son Of Sardar is ready to clash at the BO, this Diwali, Mumbai Mirror tells you why Devgn decided to choose the very date for the release of his opus. Son Of Sardar that was supposed to release on November 30 was pushed ahead by two weeks to meet SRK’s film head on. And that too at Devgn’s insistence.
A source close to the film Son Of Sardar informed Mumbai Mirror, “Ajay Devgn has had a dream rum at the box office over the last couple of years with films like Golmaal 3, Rajneeti, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai and Singham. He is extremely confident about Son Of Sardar. The film, which is also his home production, was supposed to release on November 30. However, once Don 2 released during Christmas, Ajay decided to release his project during Diwali alongside SRK’s film.”
The industry insiders are already laying their bets on the big clash at the box office. “After Singham, Ajay Devgn has been nicknamed Lion King in the industry. SRK, as we all know, is called the King Khan. It will be interesting to see the two Kings clash at the box office now,” said an industry insider.
According to the industry insider, Devgn’s decision to bring ahead the release date of his next release, especially to meet SRK head on at the box office, is a clear indication of taking their rivalry to the next level. “SRK and Ajay have never been the best of friends. Though none of them have ever talked about their rivalry, the fact that Ajay has decided to meet SRK head on this Diwali indicates that their fight is now out in the open,” said the source.
While Ajay’s last film collected over Rs 100 crore at the box office, the combination of Yash Chopra and Shah Rukh Khan might just be a little too tough to handle. We will only have to wait and watch to see who wins this Diwali.

| SRK-Farah face-off on August 31
The former friends take their cold war to the plexes, to release their productions on the same day

That Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan are no longer thick friends is known. The fact that both the Khans are aggressive when it comes to promoting their films is also not new. However, what does come as a surprise is the fact that both have decided to release their films on the same day, August 31, 2012. Mumbai Mirror has learnt that Farah's film Joker, which has been directed by her husband Shirish Kunder and SRK's co-production with KJo's Dharma, Student Of The Year will clash at the box office in the second half of the year. While, Farah had announced the release date for Joker earlier, Red Chillies and Dharma have just finalised the date and are yet to make an announcement.
Unaware of any news of Student Of The Year's release date, Joker director Shirish Kunder said, "I am not aware of the release date of the other film. As far as I am concerned, Joker is definitely coming on the 31st of August." Karan Johar chose not to reply.
However, once the dates are announced, it would be interesting to see how the former friends Farah and SRK deal with the marketing of their ventures.
Keeping Farah and SRK's marketing tactics in mind, an industry expert contemplating on what could possibly precede the two releases, told Mumbai Mirror, "Farah and SRK are both extremely strong headed. They will start a volley of verbal attacks and not leave any stone unturned for their film to be in the news."
Sanjay Leela Bhansali had earlier faced similar attacks from Farah and SRK when Saawariya released alongside Om Shanti Om in 2007.
But that was when Farah and SRK were still bosom buddies. The rift between the two good friends was formed when Farah announced Tees Maar Khan with SRK's rival Akshay Kumar. Though Farah and SRK have still maintained that they are 'good' friends, a series of incidents have proved otherwise. For example, Farah's husband Shirish Kunder had posted several tweets making fun of SRK's RA.One. He had called it a Rs 150 crore firework that fizzled out. Also, at Farah Khan's recent housewarming party, SRK was conspicuously left out of the guest list.

Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan says he is looking forward to working with Vidya Balan.
"She is a wonderful actor. I haven`t seen `The Dirty Picture` but I will see it tomorrow. I have seen `Ishqiya` on DVD and I just loved her performance. I have also seen `Paa`," Shah Rukh told reporters.
"Apart from being a marvelous actress, I think all these girls are such huge stars. I believe girls are very hard working compared to boys. I hope I get a chance to work with her," he added.
Vidya too seemed to be thrilled at the prospect.
"Why not, I would love to work with him," she replied when asked about working with Shah Rukh.
Shah Rukh Khan is presently working on his next untitled film with Yash Raj Films, where he will share screen space with Katrina Kaif.
Vidya is busy promoting her next film ‘Kahaani’.

At an estimated Rs 200-crore, his next vanity project will be pitched to Hollywood biggies in exactly a month's time

In case you are wondering why Shah Rukh Khan has been looking pale and exhausted, even after Ra.One and Don2 have come and gone, here's why. Mumbai Mirror has learnt that King Khan is back to doing what he does best - burning the midnight oil with his SFX team at Red Chillies, to put together a very special presentation.
SRK, we were told, had a meeting with his trusted lieutenants in Red Chillies, at his residence, and gave them a deadline.
The presentation, say sources from the team, is about his next pet project, which is based on one of the most interesting and complex characters in the Mahabharat, Karna.
In some of his recent interviews to foreign publications, SRK has also spoken extensively about his epic plans for the epic project, which will feature visual effects along the lines of Avatar. Now, with a month left for Berlin Film Festival, where SRK intends to pitch for his Rs 200-crore megafilm, the Red Chillies team is working round the clock to prepare the presentation.
Each member, we believe, has been asked to give their own inputs for the interpretation of Karna's character, which according to sources, may be essayed by Khan himself. In many of his earlier interviews, SRK has confessed that he has always been intrigued by this epic warrior.
The film will feature both Indian and Hollywood actors, and SRK is hoping to find a big-ticket co-producer for the same.

| Shah Rukh Khan the bakra

This is like the story of the boy who cried wolf - only this time the boy in director Janaki Vishwanathan's Bollywood debut Bakra cried Shah Rukh Khan. The child actor, who is a big fan of the star, decided to name the film's main character - the goat- after his idol, inadvertently gathering actual SRK fans at the sets.
In fact, according to a unit member, the animal has even started responding to the name - Shah Rukh.
When contacted, the National Award Winning director Vuishvanathan said, "The superstar's name is integral to the script of the film, as the child in the story loves his pet goat and is a fan of Shah Rukh Khan. The goat seems to have taken well to the name. He's been performing rather well and living up to the name. There are three lead roles in my film - Anshuman, the child and Shah Rukh."
Bakra is an allegorical film set in rural India. It delves into the universal conflict of religious spaces. The story primarily revolves around the relationship between an eight-year-old boy and his love for his pet goat.

| Shah Rukh won't attend Don 2's Berlin premiere?

Shah Rukh Khan has been unwell since the past few days and has cancelled his plan of attending the international premiere of Don 2 in Berlin. True?
Although Shah Rukh has told director Farhan Akhtar and co-star Priyanka Chopra that he won't be in attendance at this do, we hear that SRK is actually going to be there for the permiere on Sunday night and give the Don 2 team a jolly good surprise.
According to an industry source, the actor who was antibiotics is now in a condition to travel and so will be attending the Berlin Film Festival on Saturday and Sunday. Considering his huge fan following in Berlin he might spend some time with his fans too.
It is also believed that as per Shah Rukh's instruction the Don 2 team is planning to sport D tattoos. This international premiere is going to be a big celebration for the Don team since the film was shot there and the team returned with a bagful of pleasant memories while shooting this one.

| Shah Rukh Khan questioned by London Police

Shah Rukh Khan may well be loved by all but probably not as much by the London Police.
Shah Rukh, who is shooting in London for Yash Chopra's next with Katrina Kaif was reportedly questioned by the UK Police.
The shooting of the filom which also stars Anushka Sharma has been going on in London for the past several days and in true Yashraj style, strict measures are being taken to ensure that no footage or even a picture gets leaked online. And for the same purpose, the UK Police is working with the security of the Yashraj Film's on the sets to prevent any fan to to take any picture of the shoot.
And since the UK Police is involved, there is constant checking of the people and cars in the vicinity. And according to reports, it was during one of these routine checks that SRK's car was stopped by the police. Shah Rukh was also apparently questioned by the local police on some matter which is still unknown.
After some exchange of words with a few policemen, Shah Rukh got into another car and got away from the scene immediately.

Shah Rukh Khan is a charmer and someone who never fails to impress the ladies with his dimple, wit and sarcasm!
If a billion books on the king (biographies, coffee table books) were not enough, we had an entire film being inspired by the actor! It was called, 'Shah Rukh Bola khoobsurat hai tu'.
The superstar has now inspired a noted singer to pen down a song on him! Singer, Neha Kakkar has finally decided to let the world know that Shah Rukh Khan means the world to her!
With a simple yet 'fan'tastic lyrics and music given by Tony Kakkar, the girl has got every Shah Rukh Khan fan crooning to her latest number. The song originally posted as Neha Kakkar Shah Rukh Khan Song is being referred to, by his fans as 'Shah Rukh Khan anthem'!
After only 4 days of its release on youtube, the video had garnered over 1,60,000 views and comments from all over the world already begging for remakes in different languages!
A rather jubilant and excited Neha Kakkar exclaims, "I only put it up on youtube because I had made this for Shah Rukh Khan a long time ago when I was totally smitten by him. But the Shah Rukh Khan fans all across the globe can now connect to that song which has become a sort of an anthem! It's sweet of them to comment and like this video."
Not only the fans, but Shah Rukh Khan himself tweeted and thanked Neha Kakkar for this beautiful song. SRK wrote, "Heard the Neha Kakkar song just now. Very sweet and the effort put in it....thanx. I feel shy with the love given to me...."
