While King Khan is known for his numerous romantic leads, over the years the physical demands of his job have taken a heavy toll on his body. Despite being bruised and battered on several occasions, SRK soldiers on

Left cervical (neck)
In 2006, Shah Rukh was doing a guest appearance in Shakti, a Boney Kapoor film, when he suffered a neck injury while performing a stunt. His physiotherapist Dr Ali Irani sais he was advised neck surgery.
Shah Rukh had to fly to the the UK, where he was operated on by a renowned surgeon who works with rugby players.
Left rib
Shah Rukh’s first major injury occured in the early 90s at film city, where he had to jump on Anupam Kher, who was sitting on a sofa.
Just as he jumped, Kher accidentally lifted his leg, hitting SRK smack on his chest. Three of his ribs were fractured.
Left ankle
SRK jumped from the first floor for a fight sequence and twisted his left ankle. Though the sequence was to be performed by a stuntman named Riyaz, SRK had insisted on doing it himself. He was laid low for several weeks.
Right toe
In 1993, after a spate of injuries on the left side of the body, SRK suffered a severe injury on his right toe, again while shooting a jump sequence.
The injured toe troubling him again after he hurt it while shooting for My Name Is Khan.
Left shoulder
He uffered a severe injury on his left shoulder in 2008, when he tore his supraspinatus — one of the four rotator-cuff muscles in the shoulder. But Shah Rukh ignored it because of his heavy schedule and decided to work through the pain.
The shoulder got worse the following year, while shooting My Name Is Khan. “He had to jump over an actress, in a scene but misjudged the jump and landed on his shoulder,” said orthopaedic surgeon Dr Sanjay Desai.
Though he was in terrible pain, Shah Rukh went in for surgery only after the shooting schedule for the film was over. "We did a minimally invasive surgery at the Breach Candy hospital. He has recovered very well and today he is doing plenty of tough scenes,” Desai said
Left knee
In 1990, he suffered a severe injury during a fight sequence. Shah Rukh had a strain in the Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL), which is one of the four major ligaments of the knee. An MCL injury is known to be very painful.
In 1994-95, he again hurt his left knee while shooting a running sequence for Rakesh Roshan's Koyla. Despite the injury, he continued to shoot as the film’s set was put up in Arunachal Pradesh and halting the shoot would have led to severe losses. “There is a scene in the film where SRK is running with a duppatta tied around his left knee.
While anyone would think it was for the film, he had actually tied Madhuri’s dupatta to ease the pain," said Dr Irani, who was constantly giving him physiotherapy sessions those says. SRK flew to Austria for surgery after wrapping up the shoot.
Then in 2011, he hurt his knee for the third time while shooting for Ra.One. “He is going through physiotherapy and is healing. We have decided to postpone his knee surgery till he is doing better," said Irani.

| Shah Rukh Khan sad about net leak
Posted On Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 05:07:40 AM
Shah Rukh Khan has become the latest victim of internet leaks. The actor recently took to his twitter page to express his sadness at the leaked poster of his next "Ra.One", which releases on October 25. A few days ago, SRK had tweeted about releasing the poster online after speaking to his team, but soon after, the poster found its way online, and was then uploaded on several websites and Bollywood blogs.
When SRK got to know about the leak, he tweeted, "new poster that i promised...but it seems somebody else has beaten me to it.... who is this rat!!!". However, SRK's disappointment at the untimely leak was apparent as he tweeted, "How sad it is that someone somewhere has no regard for our labour of 5 yrs. They put it on the net so callously."
But, despite this, the actor took out time to connect with his followers, and also revealed details of "Ra.One"'s music launch. He said, "on the 17th the CDs of Ra.One will be in the market...we officially release it on the 12th this month."

| The question that made Shahrukh Khan angry! A rare instance when Shahrukh Khan lost his cool
Fri, Sep 16, 2011 06:29:58 GMT
Shahrukh Khan is often known to be cordial with the media but a question posed to him at the music launch of Ra.One irked the superstar.
Shahrukh’s jolly mood at the music launch of his dream project Ra.One was somewhat sullied by a question regarding the absence of Priyanka Chopra who has a guest appearance in the film. Priyanka and Sanjay Dutt (he too has a cameo in the film) did not attend the music launch.
Check out: Shahrukh Khan sweeps Kareena off her feet at the music launch of Ra.One
When asked why Priyanka had skipped the event, Shahrukh almost insulted the reporter in his reply.
“There's Sanjay Dutt too in the film and even he hasn't come. I am glad that Sanjay and Priyanka didn't come nahin toh unhe tumhare sawaalon se sharminda hona padta,” Shahrukh is reported to have said.
There have been instances in the past when Shahrukh Khan has stated that he’s embarrassed by some foolish questions from reporters but he often reciprocates with his characteristic humour. This time, however, he chose to be abrasive.

| My son feels I’m not cool enough – Shahrukh Khan Wednesday, Sep 14, 2011 by BW Team
BollywoodWorld.com, Shahrukh Khan enjoys huge fan following at home and abroad and is seen as a very cool actor, but his 14-year-old son Aryan feels that the superstar is not cool enough.
“My film ‘RA.One’ talks about the relationship between every father and son. So the film has a bit of my relationship with my son. Like he feels that I’m not cool enough and he feels that I don’t have great abs and I’m not a stud enough. The child in this film also feels similar things,” SRK told reporters here at an event to launch the music of the film.
The 45-year-old also feels that “RA.One” will get sons closer to their fathers.
“I think it’s a film that will appeal to all sons and fathers and I think it will teach them to love their fathers because I think fathers are very nice. They are good, if not better than mothers,” he said.
“RA.One”, a sci fi film, has been directed by Anubhav Sinha and stars Shah Rukh as a superhero.

| Hema’s not afraid
The filmmaker has decided to join the box-office showdown with SRK, releasing Tell Me O Khuda alongside the actor's RA.One in Diwali
Posted On Monday, September 19, 2011 at 02:57:47 AM
She was the first filmmaker to sign Shah Rukh Khan. And now, it seems that Hema Malini will compete at the box-office with the actor, whose first endeavour in Bollywood was in her directorial venture Dil Aashna Hai.
A source informed us that Hema has decided to take on SRK's dream project RA.One with the simultaneous release of her film Tell Me O Khuda, this Diwali. The industry has since been abuzz with speculations about SRK's reaction to Hema's box-office showdown, especially since Tell Me O Khuda features a cameo by the actor's arch rival, Salman Khan.
The source revealed, "For the first time, neither party are trying to sabotage each other. In the past, when Sanjay Leela Bhansali dared to take on the SRK starrer Om Shanti Om with his Saawariya, it created an unprecedented amount of friction and tension between the two parties. But, SRK and Hemaji go way back. Hemaji was the first producer to sign him for Dil Aashna Hai. Ever since then, SRK has had the highest regard for Hemaji."
Reportedly, SRK has not allowed his personal equations with Salman to interfere with his relationship with Hema. "SRK has in fact been very supportive of Hema's daughter Esha Deol's comeback in Tell Me O Khuda," added the source.
When contacted, Hema confirmed, "We had a meeting with the distributors and exhibitors, on Friday, and we all decided to go for a Diwali release. I was advised against it since RA.One is also releasing on Diwali. But it's not as if people would want to watch only one film during Diwali. Some of the biggest successes have happened during Diwali. I don't think we need to fear competition from anyone."
Reportedly, Hema is not the only one unperturbed to compete with SRK. Even filmmakers, Suniel Shetty and Himesh Reshammiya, have decided to release their films Loot and Dammadam respectively, alongside SRK's RA.One.

| Hema snubs Akki for SRK
At the music launch of Tell Me O Khuda, the filmmaker announced the arrival of her special guest, angering Khiladi Kumar, who stormed out of the venue
Posted On Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at 02:21:42 AM
It seems that Hema Malini has taken Shah Rukh Khan’s on-screen avatar as a superhero in his ambitious project RA.One a little too seriously. Reportedly, at the music launch of the filmmaker’s Tell Me O Khuda, Hema gave SRK so much importance, much to the humiliation of the other prominent guests - Akshay Kumar, Dimple Kapadia, Yash Chopra. Shatrughan Sinha.
A source informed Mumbai Mirror that when the filmmaker introduced the film’s cast and invited them on stage, she made a special announcement to say that they were awaiting the arrival of a special guest, none other than SRK.
While the rest of the invitees tried to be more gracious about Hema’s special treatment for the actor, the source revealed that Akshay Kumar made it a point to show his disappointment.
The source explained, "Ignoring big names like Yash Chopra, Akshay Kumar and Dimple Kapadia at any event is a big insult to the fraternity. What made it worse was that Hema made a special mention about Shah Rukh, who was running late.
After her announcement, Akshay, along with Dimple, waited for the music launch and then just stormed out of the venue. He was very unhappy to have been left out of Hema’s address to the audience, especially since he made the effort to be present on time, unlike SRK."
Even though SRK and Hema have known each other since 1992, when the filmmaker gave the actor his break in Bollywood in Dil Aashna Hai, her preferential treatment for him at the music launch has reportedly strained her relationships with others in the industry.
The source told us that after Akshay stormed out, the rest of the invitees followed suit. "When SRK finally landed up at the event, Hema once again took the microphone to announce that her special guest has finally arrived. But, by then Yash Chopra and Shatrughan Sinha had left the event," added the source.
Despite repeated attempts, Akshay remained unavailable for comment.

| SRK returns Rajini’s visit
He will meet the superstar at his Chennai residence today to thank him for being a part of RA.One
Posted On Monday, October 10, 2011 at 02:07:22 AM
Shah Rukh Khan, after managing to get superstar Rajinikanth to shoot for his upcoming opus RA.One in Mumbai, is on his way to return the visit and also pay homage to the south Indian icon. He will officially launch the latest RA.One promo in Chennai today and then visit Rajini at his residence. Khan will also show the final edit of the portions in RA.One that stars Rajinikanth.
A source informed Mumbai Mirror. "Shah Rukh Khan is touring different cities to promote his film RA.One. On Monday, he will be in Chennai to launch the latest promo of his film. After the event, Shah Rukh will visit Rajinikanth at his residence in Poes Garden in Chennai. SRK will meet Rajini and show him the final edit of the portions shot at Whistling Woods in Mumbai."
On October 2, Rajinikanth, putting his health issues aside arrived in Mumbai to shoot for Khan's dream project at Whistling Woods studios.
His daughter Soundarya, who arrived with the superstar made sure that nothing went wrong with the day's shoot. Khan, needless to say, is indebted to the superstar for taking time out of his recuperation space and return in front of the camera for RA.One.
"Shah Rukh is very happy that Rajini came to Mumbai for the shot despite his ill health. SRK wants to show Rajini the portions that were shot and also check on the older actor's health. It's a goodwill gesture," added the source.

| SRK learns English
Titled A for Apple, B for Ball , the actor's next home production will feature him as a Delhite struggling to speak the language fluently
Posted On Saturday, October 08, 2011 at 03:02:07 AM
Ever since his ambitious project RA.One went on floors, Shah Rukh Khan has made headlines for prioritising work over all else. From captilising on the country's most loved sport by previewing the film's promos at the 2011 Cricket World Cup to roping in the biggest names in Indian cinema - south superstar Rajinikanth and Big B, SRK has utilized all the ammunition possible for the superhero movie. And now we hear that the actor has already started chalking out plans for his next venture.
Living by his current larger-than-life mantra, his home banner, Red Chillies Entertainment, for the first time since its inception in 2002, will reportedly produce a comedy film.
A source informed Mumbai Mirror that that the film, slated to go on floors in the second half of next year, has been titled A for Apple, B for Ball. "There is also a C for something in the title, but that word is yet to be finalised," said the source.
Apparently the film's title is suggestive of its storyline. The source explained that the film dwells on the challenges of a Delhi resident who is eager to learn English, but still ends up talking in Hinglish. The source told us, "Shah Rukh will play the lead role in the film. The heroine, however, is yet to be finalized."
A source revealed that A for Apple, B for Ball was scripted by SRK's very close friend from Delhi. "Shah Rukh decided to explore the comedy genre because he loved the script. And so, he has also decided to get his friend to direct the film.
They have constantly been in contact to discuss the necessary arrangements to get the project going. They will soon zero down on the locales to shoot the film. The other modalities are fast being worked out," added the source.
Despite repeated attempts, Shah Rukh remained unavailable for comment.

| King Khan to Prince Hamlet
Reluctant to do back-to-back romantic films, Shah Rukh told Vishal Bhardwaj and Sajid Nadiadwala that instead of 2 States, he would prefer to work on the Shakespeare classic
Posted On Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 04:30:54 AM
After playing a superhero in his ambitious project RA.One, Shah Rukh Khan has decided to essay a prince for his next. Reportedly, the actor, who was supposed to work with Vishal Bhardwaj and Sajid Nadiadwala in the film adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's 2 States, had a closed door meeting with the filmmakers, last week.
A source informed Mumbai Mirror that SRK, who is currently shooting for YRF's untitled project, discussed his reluctance to do two back-to-back romantic films. The actor suggested working on one of Bhardwaj's film adaptations of Shakespeare instead.
The source explained, “Shah Rukh clearly told producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Vishal Bharadwaj that he didn't want to work on another love story. He is already doing a romantic film with Yash Chopra and so, to go straight into the romantic space again seems redundant. Shah Rukh suggested that he go into the Maqbool-Omkara space with Vishal.”
Reportedly, the actor will essay Prince Hamlet in Bhardwaj's film adaptation of the Shakespearean classic. “Shah Rukh loved what Vishal did with Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan in Omkara. They plan to shoot the Bollywood adaptation of Hamlet in the remote areas of North India.”
This will be Bhardwaj’s third Shakespearean adaptation. In the past, the director based his films Maqbool and Omkara on Shakespeare’s Macbeth and Othello respectively.
Despite repeated attempts, SRK, Bhardwaj and Nadiadwala remained unavailable for comment.

♦ Director Anubhav Sinha ♦ Actors Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Shahana Goswami, Rajinikanth ♦ Run Time 153 mins ♦ Certification U/A
There is more than a hint of autobiography in Shah Rukh Khan’s latest movie. He's often publicly professed his intent of doing what he does only to impress his kids, and this - the biggest budget Hindi film ever made - is his tribute, gifting them a superhero version of their dad.
The film too is about a parent trying to live up to his son's idea of him. Question is … how much of a father figure is he to his audience, including the under-10-year-olds this movie is targeted at? And will he impress them as much?
RA.One starts off with a spoofy all-CGI sequence (Tron meets The Hero) where SRK rescues Desi Girl (guess who) from a Khalnayak (no prizes). It's when this sequence ends and the story begins that you realise there is a problem.
The level and kind of humour is no different in the 'real' world — SRK plays a guy who dresses up like Michael Jackson to impress his son, eats noodles with yogurt using his hands, and goes on to design and release a video game so advanced that none of its own creators can pass level 1.
So for the first 40 clunky minutes of the film you're forced to spend with this character, you're squirming in your seat with the pure drivel masquerading as screenplay. How did the slew of writers employed come up with this? How can a film so big be so flawed at the script level? Sometimes, and more often than not in the writing department of a movie, too many heads lead to compromises of all sorts.
There is little logic (the game: is it console? Arcade? And does it really require one to be an Olympic-level gymnast at the very least to be able to play?), poor humour (a Hindi-speaking stunted English mugger pulls a fork instead of a knife), and dizzying levels of hyperbole.
Then something remarkable happens. A chase sequence across London matches Hollywood levels shot-to-shot as Kareena drives an SUV, trying to outpace an Energizer Bunny-meets-Agent Smith avatar of the villain.
The sequence is sharp, solid, and impactful. This is the high point of the film, and just at the interval point, after the first RA.One-G.One face off, you're willing to forgive everything that has preceded it. So, you begin to believe, the second half is what they were saving it up for…Not quite.
We're back to low-brow humour as a security guard licks his lips while performing a full body search on a pierced punk version of SRK and repeated condom jokes. New levels of low are hit when this film - about a futuristic video game character coming alive delves into TV soap territory to bring up - of all things - Karva Chauth! Is this what they call 'Indianising' a superhero movie? We already have a song with the prerequisite image of Shah Rukh Khan spreading his arms wide, a suspension bridge in the background - and everyone's happy.
Then why throw in the kitchen sink? Why not sustain the narrative with a lean, lithe plot that does not stray from what the film is about?
RA.One is going to age rapidly because cinema's technical boundaries are moving as fast as, say, mobile phone technology. SFX will impress momentarily but to remain a classic you need compelling heroes whose weaknesses are their enemies' strength and an original story - the overcoming-the-odds variation (and aren't all superheroes up against more powerful villains?) - that will stay with you.
RA.One does neither. It is a muesli-like muddle of every popular superhero movie you've seen (easily spotted are The Matrix, Spiderman, X-Men, Iron Man, Terminator, Mortal Kombat, and many others). Contextualising (to Bollywood) rather than being original is what the makers are attempting here.
And as for being the underdog, there is never a confrontation that the Good One loses despite Anubhav Sinha hammering home the point constantly (mostly by way of dialogue) that the villain is significantly stronger than the hero with a 0.01% of losing to him. And by being an emotionally handicapped robot (or a rendition of unseen rays or whatever) to feel his pain is all the more demanding of the audience.
Still, one must mention the sheer effort it looks to have taken piecing together the train sequence, the climax and several other little moments. This is not easy and it wouldn't be fair to blow it off. If only there was better writing to prop up the commitment of production design…
Kareena Kapoor continues to serve as eye candy in a series of similar testosterone-laden films with the actors taking center stage. It's Arjun Rampal - the title character - who is the pick of the leads here. With the best CGI of the film incorporated into his character's look; and a half-decent metaphorical scene involving a gigantic Raavan, his ten heads, and some urchins; Rampal delivers the goods as an intimidating super villain.
The fact of the matter is that Shah Rukh Khan's best performances — Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Swades, Chak De! India — have been films where he is not SRK. RA.One is a film that indulges the public's perception and his kids' impulse. It is designed not to be memorable, but to make money. As a producer, this works for him; but the thinking artist in him must surely crave something more distinguished.

| Post perfect with Gaga
Unable to work with the pop icon prior to RA.One release , SRK to collaborate with the artist for a post-release promotional track
Posted On Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 02:06:30 AM
The time, effort and most importantly the money that Shah Rukh Khan has invested for his opus RA.One has been the talk of the town.
The actor has done everything from employing aggressive measures to promote the film to getting Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan - the biggest names in Indian cinema to do a cameo and a voice over respectively for the film. And if that was not enough, SRK got American hip-hop artist and Grammy Award nominee, Akon, to record tracks for the film.
However, a source revealed to Mumbai Mirror that one of SRK's plans in his grand scheme for RA.One did not quite materialise and even though the film has already released, the actor is adamant to make it happen.
The source informed us that after collaborating with Akon on the hit track Chammak Challo, Shah Rukh wanted to work with Lady Gaga. But their schedules always seemed to clash. However, according to the source SRK and Lady Gaga have finally found the time to work on a song, which will be used as part of the post-release promotions for RA.One.
The source explained, "Either Shah Rukh was busy with the post-production of RA.One or Lady Gaga's dates couldn't be worked out. The song couldn't be shot for the film, although composers Vishal-Shekhar had already composed a tune for Lady Gaga to record."
According to the source, SRK felt that the film needed another hit track, apart from Chamak Challo. "In fact Shah Rukh has been discussing working with Lady Gaga with director Anubhav Sinha all through the post-production of RA.One," added the source.
When contacted, Sinha said, "Shah Rukh was very keen on working with Lady Gaga. In fact, we were supposed to shoot them together for a song that would have been used with the end-titles of RA. One. However, we couldn't co-ordinate Shah Rukh and Lady Gaga's dates. The idea of bringing them together is still very much alive. We're working on something."

| Shah Rukh gets emotional prior to Ra.one release
Posted On Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 02:26:33 PM
The actor had a special trial of his film in Mumbai before he left for Dubai and the privileged few who got to see the film, have liked it.
Filmmaker Karan Johar revealed, "I just saw RA.One! Adrenalin pumping and the best computer graphics India has ever seen! It's a MEGA BLOCKBUSTER super hero ride!! OUTSTANDING. The SFX team at red chillies and Anubhav have proven that Indian cinema can match and overtake the technology of the west!"
Speaking on the performances, Karan added, "Arjun rampal makes a stunning impact and my darling bebo (Kareena) is the most beautiful ever! Watch out for the kid armaan in the film! Shah Rukh Khan is not only a mega movie star but every inch of his performance is conviction personified!"
Shah Rukh got emotional after watching his most ambitious project till date. He tweeted, "Watching the first copy of Ra.One...Damn! I realized yet again I have made a love story...a love story between me and my dreams. Everyone seemed to enjoy the Ra.One experience at the trial. Allah has been very kind to all of us & I hope all of you appreciate the newness. The hard work, the fights, the struggle, the hype...all that will get lost in time, like tears in the rain...only the film remains forever."

| 3D worries for the superhero
Advance bookings have begun but the fate of RA.One 3D version remains uncertain
Posted On Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 02:05:13 AM
Eager fans waiting to catch SRK’s opus in 3D when it premiered in Dubai last night, were in for a disappointment. The film was in 2D. Back home, concerns about Ra.One’s much-touted 3D version have intensifie. Bookings for the film have begun, but the 3D prints of the movie are still not ready. In fact, distributors have asked theatre owners to stop the bookings of the 3D version for the time being.
Waiting to get a confirmation on the delivery of the 3D prints so that they can restart the advance bookings for the same, Rahul Singh, SR. VP of PVR Cinemas told Mumbai Mirror last evening, "The distributors, Eros asked us to hold on to the advance booking for the 3D version of RA.One. We are still waiting for the go ahead from them to restart the same."
Anand Vishal, Head of Operations of Fun Cinemas added, "We got a message from the distributors this morning. They told us that the prints would be delayed since the 3D conversion in digital was not ready yet. Due to this, we stopped the sale of tickets for the 3D version. Everything was supposed to get sorted out by this (Monday) afternoon. However, we are still waiting for the confirmation."
Till late last evening, multiplex owners had still not heard from the distributors. "This situation is certainly not desirable. But we have to hold the advance bookings since 3D shows are still uncertain," said Ashish Saxena, COO of BIG Cinemas.
Though sale of tickets for the 3D shows have now been stalled, the multiplex owners will still have to sort out the issue of the tickets that have already been sold.
When contacted, Nadu Ahuja of Eros International said, "There was a problem earlier. However, it is now being sorted out. Exhibitors are also being informed."
What it takes to be 3D ready?
To convert a 2D film to 3D, firstly, Rotoscopy is done on the characters. This process involves separation of the background and the foreground. Colour correction is then done on the background and depth is added. Special 3D elements are then added in the 2nd stage. Generally, the process of conversion to 3D takes three to five months for a film that's 2 hours long. However for RA.One, the process was completed in record time, revealed a source close to the film.

Alvira Khan’s recent Blackberry status message has reignited the fued between archrivals Salman, SRK

The fact that Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan are not the best of friends, since a very memorable birthday bash in Bandra on July 16, 2008, is no secret. And while both the actors have managed not to add fuel to the three-year-old fire in the recent past, Salman’s sister Alvira Khan Agnihotri seems to have reignited the tensions between the two actors.
A few days ago, after the release of Shah Rukh’s ambitious venture RA.One, Alvira’s Blackberry status message interestingly read: ‘Even a Superhero needs a Bodyguard!’
Reportedly, Alvira’s rather bold and not so cryptic message spread like wildfire among people in the industry, even though she quickly updated that particular status message.
A source informed Mumbai Mirror that those close to Salman’s family have defended Alvira’s Blackberry status update on the pretext that RA.One garnered mixed reviews and she was entitled to her opinion.
However, some others in the industry are of the opinion that Alvira did not need to be sarcastic. “This is nothing but sarcasm. They need not take such a dig at SRK,” said a supporter of the SRK camp.
In fact, those who support SRK have gone as far as to insinuate that Salman got his sister to write the status message.
The source explained, “Alvira looks up to Salman and wouldn’t do anything drastic like this without being told. And even if this was her idea, she must have definitely informed him and asked for his consent to write the message. Either way, Salman must be in the loop.”
However, a friend of Alvira’s defended, “Yes, Alvira did put up that Blackberry status message which you are talking about. So what if she did? Blackberry status messages are meant to be fun. It was just a joke between Alvira and one of her close friends. It was not meant to take a dig at Shah Rukh.”
