| Arjun Rampal: I took a break because I was exhausted

After starring in three-back to back films in 2013, Arjun Rampal says taking a break for more than a year was much-needed for him.

Arjun, who will be next seen in 'Roy' post his no show last year, appeared in Prakash Jha's political drama 'Satyagraha' besides 'Inkaar' and spy thriller 'D-Day'.
"I took a break consciously because I was exhausted. I just wanted to read and not think about movies. I wanted to spend time with me and my family. And in between the script of 'Roy' was also developing," Arjun told PTI.
In the upcoming Ranbir Kapoor-Jacqueline Fernandez starrer film, Arjun is playing a director, who is undergoing OCD (Obsessive¿compulsive disorder), and has the fetish of collecting hats.
"I have patiently waited for this film. As I have seen the final result, I can proudly say Vikramjit Singh (director) has done a splendid job as a debutant director.
"When he first came with the script it was like a novel to me but then we developed it further. Film starts with me who is a successful director and has made a franchise of a film tiled 'Gun'. And now he wants to make 'Gun 3'," he added.
The 42-year-old model-actor said hat is the trademark of his character in 'Roy' that is hitting theatres on February 13, a day ahead of Valentine's Day.
"I have seen a hat two years back in New York in a vintage shop and loved it. I thought of using the same one in the film. I also founded a pair of glasses and these two things kind of stayed with Kabir till the end of the film," he said.
'Roy' has been shot extensively in Malaysia and the 'Ra.One' star said the foreign locations acted as characters in the film.
"The locations of the film are very important as they are like a character itself. In Malaysia, we have shot. We covered both small towns and beaches," Arjun said.

| Arjun Rampal: National award is only non-commercial event

With the season of award shows on, actor Arjun Rampal says such functions are money making businesses except the National Award. "I think it's a money making business. National award is the only award which is not a commercial event and it's the only award function which has got any weight," said Arjun, who received the National Award for Supporting Actor for his role in 'Rock On'.
The actor who hails from a non filmy background says he doesn't feel like an outsider.
"I don't feel as an outsider in this industry. I have immense respect for the Industry and will do anything and everything in my power to contribute back to it," he said.

| Arjun Rampal: My wife is brutal in reviewing my films

'Roy' actor Arjun Rampal has a perfect partner in wife Mehr, who gives him 'brutally honest' feedback on his movies.Arjun, who is awaiting the release of "Roy", which hits the theatres a day before Valentine's Day, told IANS: "She (Mehr) is brutally honest sometimes...too brutal when it comes to reviewing (my) films."
That's also a reason why Arjun seeks her feedback.
"When you make a film, you get so close to it that it's like your baby and your perception comes to an end. It's nice to get a fresh and new outlook to it," he said.
Arjun and Mehr were supermodels of their time. While Arjun moved into films, Mehr has stayed away. But if their daughters Mahikaa and Myraa wish to step into daddy's shoes, why not, says Arjun.
"It's their choice. I will not say 'no' because the film industry is a wonderful place. Acting is a wonderful profession, and if they want to do it, I will support them," he said, and added that his daughters like to visit
him on a film set sometimes to see what goes behind the making of a movie.
"Both of them are quite intrigued by it. It feels good," said the doting father, who believes parents should be friends with their children.
Talking about himself and Mehr, he said: "I don't think any of us are strict. Today we have to be friends with our children because if you make an issue of something, then the children will do it. And if they start hiding things from you, things may get worse sometimes."

| Mumbai police summons Arjun Rampal for 'unauthorised' meeting with Arun Gawli

Mumbai police have summoned Bollywood actor Arjun Rampal in connection with his alleged "unauthorised" meeting with jailed gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli at a government-run hospital.
The letter asking the actor to appear for questioning was delivered at his residence last week but he is yet to respond, police sources said today.
"We recently learnt about the meeting and are inquiring into the matter. We sent a letter to the actor last week directing him to appear before us at the earliest so that we can question him to ascertain the reason for the meeting.
The letter was hand-delivered at the actor's Bandra residence and his wife received it," Senior Inspector at J J Marg police station Anil Madvi said.
The 42-year-old actor, who is playing the role of Gawli in an under-production film 'Daddy', reportedly met the gangster convicted in a murder case at J J Hospital on December 28 last year. "We would wait for some more days and, in case there is reply from him, we will send him a reminder," said another officer, adding nobody is allowed to meet a convicted prisoner without permission from the concerned authorities.
Sources said the actor had met Gawli for a closer understanding of his personality and mannerisms for essaying the role tailored after the former underworld don, who had been brought to the hospital for a routine medical check up.
Gawli is currently serving life term for the 2007 murder of a corporator Kamlakar Jamsandekar.

| Mumbai: Met Arun Gawli for just 10 mins, Arjun Rampal tells cops

Actor Arjun Rampal recorded his statement with the police regarding his meeting with gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli without permission at the J J Hospital on December 29, 2014, on Tuesday.
Though the police had information that the actor and the don spoke for around one hour, Rampal denied it and said he only spoke to Gawli for ten minutes. The actor had met Gawli without taking any permission. The police got a tip-off about it and inspector Kadam of the J J Marg police station reached the hospital and told the two that they could not carry on.
“The J J Marg police station summoned Rampal, and on Tuesday he recorded his statement with the Additional Commissioner of Police, South region’s office,” said Dhananjay Kulkarni, spokesperson of the Mumbai police.
Rampal told the police that he had gone to J J Hospital as he was going to shoot in the premises, and met the don as he was told that Gawli was in the hospital. “As Arjun is doing a film on Gawli, which I am producing, his role required him to meet him (Gawli).
We had told the police that we wanted to meet Gawli, and Gawli himself came out to receive Arjun,” said Mandar Dalvi, who is producing the film Daddy, which is based on Gawli’s life. Rampal is playing Gawli in it.
Rampal told cops he had a discussion with Gawli only for 10 minutes, but sources in the police department told mid-day they spoke at length and stopped only when J J Marg police officers intervened.
Sources said the Navi Mumbai police escorting Gawli who allowed the actor to meet him could be in trouble. Gawli is serving life term for the 2007 murder of a corporator Kamlakar Jamsandekar.

Actors Jacqueline Fernandez and Arjun Rampal were in the capital to promote their forthcoming release 'Roy', and they launched a new collection of bridal jewellery and men's accessories on Tuesday.

"We are pleased to unveil our new bridal jewellery collection and men's accessories by Jacqueline Fernandez and Arjun Rampal,” the managing director of Shreem Jeweler Ashutosh Sharma said in a statement about the stars, who were present to promote their forthcoming film 'Roy'.
The men's accessories includes Indo US Cufflinks which have been specially designed keeping in mind the January visit of US President Barack Obama to India. The men’s range also consists of diamond rings, diamond studded Mont Blanc pen and more.

Last year it was reported that Soni Razdan had roped in Arjun Rampal for her next directorial venture, 'Love Affair'. However, just before the film could get rolling, the actor was shown the door with Ali Fazal replacing him.

Confirming the news, Pooja Bhatt says, “It was a decision taken by Mahesh Bhatt, Bhushan Kumar and me based on hardcore market realities. We are clear about one thing — eventually it is the film’s budget that works and it was important for us to ensure that we make Love Affair within an economic framework that can’t go wrong at the box office.”
Rampal has not really been on a high in terms of his box office success. His latest release 'Roy' struggled to find takers, much like his previous releases, 'Satyagraha' and 'Inkaar'. Besides, the actor’s remuneration was on the higher side as compared to the budget planned by Pooja.
'Love Affair' is based on a crime of passion that takes place in the wake of infidelity in marriage. Apparently inspired by the sensational Nanavati murder case, the film will feature Fazal and Kalki Koechlin as a couple while Gulshan Devaiah will essay the lover’s role. Well known lawyer Ram Jethmalani has a pivotal role as a special prosecutor.

| Ali Fazal replaces Arjun Rampal in Soni Razdan's 'Love Affair'

Actor Ali Fazal has been roped in to replace Arjun Kapoor in Soni Razdan's directorial venture 'Love Affair'. The film also stars Kalki Koechlin, Gulshan Devaiah and Monica Dongra.
Confirming the news Ali said, "Yes I have been approached for the part in what I call the wee hours of the movie's commencement, to replace Arjun Rampal due to some issues.
"I read the part and said yes immediately, it is a challenging role, so I have already immersed in the looks and costumes of the film because there is very little time to prepare," the 28-year-old actor said in a statement.
Earlier, Karishma Kotak was set to play the female lead but the film eventually landed in Kalki's lap.
'Love Affair' is about infidelity in marriage. Ali will be playing Kalki's husband and Gulshan will be seen in the role of her lover.
The film is rumoured to be loosely based on a real life passion crime case.

| Arjun Rampal to star in our next project: Bhushan Kumar

New Delhi: After replacing Arjun Rampal with Ali Fazal in "Love Affair", co-producer Bhushan Kumar of T-Series, says the actor is being saved for "another project".
Arjun was the first choice for "Love Affair", to be directed by Soni Razdan and co-produced by Pooja Bhatt. But budget constraints are said to have led to his ouster from the film.
"Arjun Rampal is a very dedicated actor and is extremely conscious about the production values and budgets of the films he has done and commits to.
"The Bhatts decided to bring down the overall budget (of the film), so we decided to save Arjun for our another project that we are planning on, even though he was very enthusiastic about the script," Kumar said in a statement.
"To me, Arjun is a good friend and working with him is always something we look forward to," Kumar added.
“Love Affair” is a period film set in Mumbai. The movie slated to start this month, and it also features Karishma Kotak and Diandra Soares.

Whispers of Arjun Rampal and Mehr Jessia heading for a split had been keeping the grapevine busy for months now.

Sources revealed that the couple might have filed for divorce at a Bandra family court yesterday.
A source says, "Arjun and Mehr's 17-year marriage hit choppy waters some time ago. But nothing can be said as of now as the couple has been extremely private about its decisions."
The actor was linked to Sussanne Khan, celebrity interior designer and Hrithik Roshan's ex-wife, but both Arjun and Mehr consistently denied the rumours.
Now we hear the couple has taken a decision to go for divorce by mutual consent.
They have two daughters.
