| I didn't face any issues during Aisha: Abhay Deol

Aisha is up for release and the film is seeing some intensive promotional drive from its leading lady Sonam Kapoor. Meanwhile, Abhay Deol is currently abroad while shooting for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara with Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Katrina Kaif. While he is currently absent from the promotional scene, well physically at least, he did ensure that he pitches in as much as possible into media before flying away.
While closer home, there were murmurs around him facing issues during the filming of Aisha, Abhay comes up with an outright denial and states that all such stories were nothing but plain imagination that didn't carry any standing whatsoever.
"Really, I didn't face any issues whatsoever", says Abhay when questioned if such rumours were indeed true, "On the contrary, I had so much fun making this film. I don't know from where these stories were coming from. Or perhaps if I think really hard, I could actually trace their origin. Well, let it go!"
He is also amused in the manner some stories are built regardless of what an actor says on the records.
"Some journos put a question in such a manner that whatever you say, it goes on to become a headline", smiles Abhay, "For example if someone asked me that whether I had an affair with the leading lady of my film, my answer will surely make a headline, whether I say 'yes' or 'no'. They think that we actors don't get it but that's not the case at all. We are not dumb but if someone is just hell bent on making a headline, you have to just let it go."
It's the stance of all izz well that Abhay is taking, now that the film is just a few days away from release.
"By and large it was quite good making this film", Abhay gets serious here, "Sonam and me really got along well and whatever you read about any issues whatsoever is nothing but plain rumour. As I said, it is just a game of headline."

They shared a rapport that went beyond a mere actor-director bond. In fact, people who know Dibakar Banerjee and Abhay Deol are accustomed to the two of them pulling each other’s leg all the time. And so, at the Shanghai wrap-up party, when Abhay suddenly got up and told the director, “I’m leaving. There’s no point me staying on. You’ve no time for me”, everyone thought it was another silly gag the actor was playing on Dibakar. But this time around, it seems that Abhay was not joking.
An eyewitness told Mumbai Mirror, “We all heard Abhay say this to Dibakar and we thought this was an inside joke between them, since they are constantly pulling each other’s leg. But Abhay was serious. He walked out and Dibakar didn’t try to stop him, although he looked surprised.”
This incident has surprised many in industry because Abhay and Dibakar’s friendship dates back to when the two worked together in 2008, in Oye Lucky Lucky Oye. Since the film was Abhay’s first commercial success, the actor always seemed to favour Dibakar and his work. And that is apparently why they decided to work together again in Shanghai.
A source revealed that Abhay’s outburst at Dibakar stems from a lot of pent up tension the actor had with his co-star Emraan Hashmi. “While shooting in Latur and Baramati, the crowds went crazy for Emraan. In the beginning, Abhay did not take it badly. But then when the story was repeated everywhere, it naturally took a toll on his self-esteem.
To top off the overt tilt of balance in the popularity scales between the two actors, Abhay also began to feel that Dibakar was showing a certain amount of partiality towards Emraan,” explained the source.
When contacted, Dibakar told Mumbai Mirror, “I don’t know what happened. But Abhay suddenly got up and walked out saying I had no time for him. I was surprised. But it would be wrong to say I sensed any tension between Abhay and Emraan during the shooting of Shanghai.
As actors, they’ve both gone through a lot of churning and vilification before getting to where they are today. So, they empathize with one another’s circumstances. As for the rivalry, I didn’t sense any and certainly didn’t create any. Maybe people felt a tension between them in real life because their on-screen characters are in conflict with each other.”

Abhay Deol is one actor who doesn't shy away from calling a spade a spade. The actor impressed us with his honesty and objectivity as he urged children to go outdoors and play instead of watching television for a long period of time.
The actor addressed children at an event which was organized by Disney and PVR Nest to launch a first-of-its-kind initiative 'My City My Parks'. The initiative aimed at creating awareness amongst children regarding the hazards of depleting urban greenery and highlighting the role of parks in their lives.
Abhay said, "Every night before going to bed, I want all of you to ask yourselves if you gave anything back to the environment, society that day. Plant trees. See to it that trees are preserved. As a child I did it myself. It is also important to go out and play over watching tv all day. I am a film star myself. There is no harm in watching tv, films but it has to be done in moderation."
The actor influenced the chillar party for sure as the kids were more than happy to take notes from their favourite Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara star.

| 'Perfectionist' Abhay gets into Punjabi wedding mode

He may be playing a zombie in his next film but that hasn't stopped Abhay Deol from going all out to 'prepare' for it. To quote the much used and abused term, Abhay is getting into the 'skin of the character' for 'Rock The Shaadi'. Of course being a zombie in real life is out of question but the least he is doing in this direction is to get the Punjabi wedding scene right.
"Abhay plays a Punjabi munda in the film who gatecrashes into weddings. To get the right feel for his character, Abhay has been attending quite a few Punjabi weddings. Though everyone attached to the film is tight lipped about the actual plot of the film and what exactly does Abhay do after gate-crashing, there is a definite fun element to it all. To fine-tune his own comic timing and get the Punjabi milieu right, Abhay is enjoying his evenings out," informs a source.
Given the fact that Abhay is a hardcore Punjabi himself, one wonders if there is indeed a requirement for Abhay to spend so much time in joining these celebrations. After all, he could well have used his earlier experience of attending weddings and spoken to people at his household to get a better hang of what really happens on such occasions.
"See, it is one thing to be just a 'baraati' and another to actually get in-depth idea around the traditions and customs. As an outsider, he may have seen quite a few things during weddings over the years. However when a film by its very title requires it's central protagonist to 'rock a shaadi', it is imperative that he gets an in-depth idea around what really transpires in a wedding," the source continues.
"Let's not forget that he is fast turning out to be the newest perfectionist in town. Even in 'Shanghai' where he is required to play a 'babu', he has gone through a complete changeover to look and play a 40 year old government officer," he says.
Guess Aamir does have competition from the younger generation when it comes to wearing the perfectionist hat!

| Abhay will not be back with Sonam
The actor walks out of Rajkumar Santoshi’s ambitious film, saying the filmmaker is unprepared. Sonam too is undecided

Raj Kumar Santoshi is not a happy man at the moment. His next film, which he had announced with a lot of fanfare, starring Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol is now bereft of its lead actor. Mumbai Mirror has learnt that Abhay is now out of the project that was scheduled to go on floors on February 1. Moreover, even Sonam is currently undecided about her part in the film.
Confirming the news, a source close to Abhay said, "Abhay had consented to the film in principle. But every time he asked Santoshi anything about the film, the director was either evasive or unclear. Abhay decided to excuse himself from the project since he thought it would be better for him. He even informed Santoshi about it. There is no bad blood between the two."
Though Sonam refused to talk about it, an industry source close to her had a similar story to tell. "Santoshi was not able to come up with the right set up. Yes, Abhay is not doing that film either. So why should Sonam hold on to it? Since things have not fallen into place, she is undecided at the moment. However, if everything falls in place, she will definitely consider it," informed the source.
Speaking to Mumbai Mirror from Dubai, Santoshi claimed, "Things are falling in place. I am here scouting for locations for the film. I have already signed Ravi K Chandran for cinematography. I plan to start in March."
When asked about his lead actors leaving the project, the director had quite a different story to tell. While he agreed that Abhay is not in his project any longer, the director insisted that Sonam was still a part of his venture. "Abhay had issues with the dates. He said he had to work on Rock The Shaadi," said Santoshi. Apparently, he wasn’t happy with Abhay’s incessant questions either.
When asked about who will replace Abhay, he said, "I have zeroed down on a few names. I shall let you know in four days."

Filmmaker Prakash Jha is ready with his next multi-starrer, Chakravyuh. This Arjun Rampal-Abhay Deol starrer is set in a Maoist infested hinterland and tackles a politically relevant issue. The film also has Manoj Bajpayee, Esha Gupta, Anjali Patil and Om Puri playing important roles. Chakravyuh is the story of two best friends: Adil (Arjun) and Kabir (Abhay). Adil Khan, a highly decorated police officer is posted to Nandighat, after a horrifying massacre of 84 policemen.
What follows is how Adil tries to plant Kabir as mole and how he gets double crossed in the process. Post Gangs Of Wasseypur I, this is Bajpayee’s second outing as the man from the hinterlands. He plays the role of a Naxal leader, and we must say that he brings a lot of authenticity to the role. Rampal with his moustache and baritone adds to the gravity of the film. We wonder how and why the maker squeezed in the intimate scenes into a grim story like this. Either they were arm-twisted by the exhibitors or Jha felt the need to offer the audience some relief from the serious subject!
We are waiting to watch Mr Jha’s ambitious take on the Naxal issue…

Abhay Deol, 36, is unconventional in his choices and considers himself an 'insider who is an outsider'. He opens up to TOI and talks about rebellion, Sunny Leone and why he would love to work with Farah Khan.
Even though you grew up in a traditional family, you are unconventional both in terms of your lifestyle as well as your choice of films.
I grew up in a joint family. My father is the younger brother of Bobby bhaiya's father and as is the case in joint families, I call my dad 'chacha' and call Bobby Bhaiya's father 'dad' who is the father figure of the house. I shocked my family first by moving out at the age of 23 and then having a live-in relationship. As regards the kinds of films I did, they were more concerned that the non-formula films I did, would not get the required support and that I was naive to do them. But I am glad I was ignorant for I could have succumbed to mainstream pressures and played safe and not done the films I did. I was fortunate that I have already worked with directors that the world has discovered only now, be it Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar, Reema Kagti, or Imtiaz Ali. I worked in films where the director, the producer and the subject were new. I was an insider who was an outsider.
Looking back, what aspect of your personality do you think prompted these decisions?
I was always stubborn. My family always called me a 'dheeth'. We all rebel against our families while growing up. I did not mean to extend the same attitude to the industry, but I guess I ended up being true to my nature. I was petrified and did not respect the song and dance routine. For instance, I find item numbers vulgar, even though they are the norm today. I am surprised that no one finds them demeaning towards women, seeing it as a way instead to celebrate our culture. Am glad we had Sunny Leone do a film. I hope more porn stars come in to our industry as it fits in very well. We are so overtly sexual yet we deny our sexuality. In such a situation, it's better to get someone from the porn industry who is completely uninhibited. It just might help us be more uninhibited. Because we are not open, we put our girls into the skimpiest of costumes.
Some of the crotch gyrating movements and shaking boobs is much more vulgar than a woman standing naked in Hollywood films. I read in one of Sunny Leone's interviews that kids come and ask her if they can take pictures with her and she asks them if they are sure they want to take a picture with her as she is a porn star and I find that very touching. People who are more open and embrace sexuality are less sex obsessed as opposed to people who are repressed and have sex on their mind all the time. This is representative of our society and creeps into our films.
You come from a traditional but successful film family. How did this affect you emotionally?
I am a secure person because I know I have the family I have. But at the same time, I have always been raised to make my own path and not be dependent on them. We have a joint family and I know my taaiji and my cousins are always there for me and they produced my first movie, but my parents would always tell me to carve out my own path without taking any help. So, I have a great balance between being pampered and being encouraged for being independent.
I grew up with low self-esteem. I was always emotional and sensitive and started taking charge of my life only as I grew older. I had no confidence in myself. I was bad at studies, sports and everything else except that I could go up on stage and act and was good in languages and art. Basically I was an underachiever. At home they felt I was intelligent but could never figure why I could never get the marks. I was not vocal and my complexities took over my childhood which turned me into a rebel.
My brothers are different personalities and we all grew up with the same rules and regulations. Sunny Bhaiya has always been a fitness freak. He was always disciplined, never drank or smoked. Bobby was the opposite, a normal cool guy. We had girlfriends who had more relaxed deadlines than our 11.30 pm. Bobby who shared a room with me used to put pillows under his blanket and sneak out. One night when he returned, he saw me sleeping and woke me up only to find that I had sneaked out leaving the pillow under the blanket, just as he used to. His mom was angry with him for being a bad influence on me. In retrospect, it is quite funny and endearing.
You have a live-in relationship with Preeti Desai? Any plans of marriage?
A sign on a paper does not confirm your loyalty to your loved one. You can't put a stamp on love. I know enough marriages where people cheat on their spouse. A live-in relationship works well since it is by choice. A marriage does not give you any guarantee of loyalty. Only honesty between two individuals can guarantee that. I would love to have kids except that I don't like the world we live in. Preeti and I have been together for three years and are really happy with the way we are. She is a free spirit like I am. Both of us treasure honesty and loyalty, which we know exist in our relationship.

| Raanjhanaa Movie Review: Dhanush gets his Hindi right

[IST]From the land of South to the glamorous tinselville, Tamil starlet Dhanush has come quite a long way to make a niche for himself in the Hindi film industry with his latest debut movie Raanjhanaa. And to one's surprise, Dhanush proves it and he is sure to stay here. Directed by filmmaker Anand L Rai, Raanjhanaa features Sonam Kapoor opposite Dhanush, along with Abhay Deol and Swara Bhaskar who are playing supporting roles. Like the other romantic films, Raanjhanaa too follows the same funda of "Come Fall In Love". But, this one stands out and makes a unique impression like never before.
Story
Raanjhanaais the story about a boy named Kundan (Dhanush), who falls in love with Zoya (Sonam Kapoor) and tries to woo her all the time. Zoya then moves to another city for her education, where she falls head over heels in love with another man Akram/Jaspreet (Abhay Deol), a senior at her university in Delhi. Being a true and loyal lover, Kundan continues to feel the same for his girl and waits for her to return. When Zoya returns to her hometown, she reveals her love story with Akram/Jaspreet to Kundan. Kundan in return is heart-broken. But, that's just not the end of the story. There's a lot more twists and turns in the flick.

About Connected Hum Tum, Malishka said, "Zee TV came to me with the show as they wanted to focus on a woman, who is a successful media person with her own share of worries and problems to overcome. Since it is a self-broadcasting show where the format requires us to shoot our life and share the footage with the channel, I thought they would be more focussed on my professional life with the mad buzz of jockeying and the stars that flit in and out of my life daily."
"But they wanted me to record more of my personal life and share my thoughts and feelings as candidly and intimately as possible," she added. Malishka decided to go ahead with the show as a gift to her fans.

Bollywood actor Abhay Deol to enter the world of film production. This talented actor has eight years of experience in the industry and thinks it's enough to plunge into the production business. Abhay who is legendary Dharmendra's nephew entered the film industry in 2005 with the film Socha Na Tha.
After which he has acted in various films including Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd., Ek Chalis Ki Last Local, Manorama Six Feet Under, Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, Dev D and Chakravyuh.The 37-year-old has played versatile roles in his films. After all this learning and growth in the industry, Abhay has decided that it's time for him to step ahead and look at producing movies.
If I would have thought that I am taking this decision too early in my career, then I would have not become a producer. You will also get to know it once the film will release," said the actor at the launch of a new Mercedes Benz car on July 11.
In the first film he is set to produce, Abhay will be seen romancing his real life girl friend Preeti Desai. The film will be directed by Devika Bhagat. Abhay was last seen in Raanjhanaa along side Sonam Kapoor and southern actor Dhanush.
